How I Do Math is the first video I ever made. Pursuing the 11 Betties mission of breaking open the conversation around math, I interviewed women and girls about how their brains work while doing it.

I asked 11 students and friends to spend their Saturday with me in anotherfriend’s garage. I scrounged up enough money to hire a cinematographer, rent exactly one light, and buy everyone sandwiches for lunch.

The video was posted on Pi Day in 2015 with no publicity, and soon received organic press and praise from HelloGiggles, Shonda Rhimes, Texas Instruments and more.
